How to make your wedding cake yourself

I am a baker and have ambitious plans to make my wedding cakes in the next few weeks. You’re not the only one who wants to make your wedding cake.

There are many things to think about before you make your recipe. Here are my top tips for creating your dream cake.

Choose an Attainable cake design.

Although the number of servings is an important factor in choosing the right size cake, this is not always the case. The look you want can influence this decision. You may want to have a certain number of tiers or extra space between each one for decorations.

Our wedding cake will be a simple design. The cake will be decorated with fresh flowers from my bouquets. They will also cascade diagonally across it.

You can make wedding cakes ahead of time, as shown below. You don’t want your wedding day to be ruined by complicated decorations. I recommend choosing a design that you are confident in the making and can easily execute.

Number of Guests

When making a wedding cake, the first thing to consider is its size. What number of guests will you be serving? What number of guests will be attending the event?

You can combine different sized tiers in many ways. This allows for a wide range of serving sizes that a tiered cake may have.

You can find wonderful charts to assist you in this. My wedding will have 120 guests. I am planning to make a four-tiered birthday cake. The tiers will be 12″, 10, 8, 8 and 6″. This cake should serve 134 people, so that I will allow for some margin. This is great because people sometimes want to have more.

Decorate with Real, Fresh Flowers

Flowers are a beautiful and common way to decorate a wedding cake. There are many types of flowers you can use.

While sugar paste flowers are fun and easy, they can also be quite laborious. These flowers are an art form in their own right, and most people don’t have the time or skills to make them.

Choose Your Favorite Flavor and Stick to It

After you have decided on the size and decorations of your cake, it is time to decide on the flavor. This is an individual decision you and your partner should make. Make it a part of your whole life if you love the same flavor!

You can share your preferences if you don’t agree on one flavor. Please keep it simple and don’t make more than two flavors of your wedding cake.

Frosting that makes you feel confident

The cake flavor is an important decision. But the frosting is equally important! Some might argue that this is the most important choice.

The choice of frosting is up to you and how much you like decorating with it. American buttercream is my favorite frosting, and I use it on nearly all of my cakes. It’s the easiest frosting I have ever made! It is just butter, powdered sugar and a little cream. You can make a batch in 5 minutes.

Timing

Once you’ve got all the details in place, it’s time to plan the timeline. Cake layers can be made weeks ahead if properly wrapped and frozen. Buttercream can also be prepared ahead of time.

It makes the whole process much more fun by breaking up the work. This allows you to take a break from all the baking and decoration. You can then put your creativity into the decoration.

If something does go wrong (you lose your cake layers or run out of sugar), it will give you time to fix the situation. It will also allow you to take the necessary steps to rectify the situation.
